Priors Hardwick Parish Notes

It seems that a big bonfire is a good way of getting our inhabitants out of their houses – and I don’t mean by burning them out!  The Queen’s 90th birthday was the opportunity for another beacon to be lit on the hill above the village and it was an opportunity to catch up with many of our friends and neighbours who we don’t come across very often in our busy lives.  While the men talked about sport, work & the travails of commuting, the women probably didn’t, and there were seemingly dozens of children running off steam across the field.  Many thanks to Hugh Darbishire and his mates for

Pilgrimage Walk Stockton-Napton

Setting off
Strolling along the canal
We made it!!

On 7th May, a beautiful sunny Saturday morning a group of us set off with Bishop Christopher joining him on day 2 of  the Bishop's Pilgrimage walk around the Coventry Diocese. Setting off from St Michael's in Stockton, we walked along footpaths, road and canal, finishing off with a short climb to St Lawrence's, Napton where we were greeted with delicious cake and tea/coffee.

Gillian's Letter

A call to prayer

Just before Easter, I received a letter from the Archbishops of Canterbury and York (okay – so did the rest of the clergy in England!)  It was an invitation to take part in a week of prayer for people to get to know Jesus better.  The idea is to have a great wave of prayer across the country in the week leading up to the festival of Pentecost on Sunday 15th May.

Easter Egg Hunt

On Easter Saturday Pam organised an Easter egg hunt in and around St Lawrence, Napton. She and Dick did an amazing job of hiding eggs in every available space, so much so that we will be finding them for a while yet. Several families came to take part in the hunt, one en route from Orkney!! Jayne organised some craft activities and everyone had the chance to make baskets for the children to collect eggs in. The grown-ups were well looked after with a plentiful supply of coffee and cakes. It was lovely to have a buzzing church for a good couple of hours.

April Letter

A time to reflect on the past and look forward to the future

We are now well into the season of our Annual Parochial Church Meetings (APCMs).  These are important meetings for the whole church and wider community if we are to maintain the buildings in each of our villages.    The meetings are an opportunity to review the activities of the past year, to elect people onto the Parochial Church Council (PCC) and to look forward to the events planned for the next year.
